To be Jewish is to be grateful. The Hebrew word for Jew (Yehudi) comes from the word l’hodot, which means to express thanks. Gratitude is woven into our daily rhythm: we begin each morning with Modeh Ani, thanking God even before we get out of bed.
Mystery Thanks takes that sense of gratitude and turns it into something playful, giving everyone a chance to reflect on what they’re thankful for in a fun, memorable way.
My family played this last year at our Thanksgiving meal, and it was a big hit. We had so many “awww” moments, along with lots of laughter and fun attempts at hiding very obvious poker faces. Best of all, we all enjoyed hearing what everyone was grateful for.
